#USMNT
On the left is what being an USMNT fan feels like.
On the right is what being an USMNT fan is actually like.
… which is essentially the same as the left.
We’re badasses.
What a day.
Everything from the tailgating, walking into the stadium with the Outlaws, and then leaving the stadium heads held high was amazing.
Before the game started… probably around 6, the guy who sang the national anthem was in the stadium practicing I’m assuming because once we all heard him start it up, every American in the parking lot started singing along. It was glorious.
When we met up with the Outlaws they had BEEN ready to go. We walked up to WE HAVE TIM HOWARD! and joined right in. I have videos of some of those but I may only put up one due to bad camera skills and drunken singing.
Then in the stadium we were looking around some of the booths and I go to fix my cape (American Flag) to find that it had fallen off! :((((( … I got that flag at the last USA v Brazil game :( .. so I then made it my mission to stop every person walking by me with a flag on and offer to buy it ;) I was denied 3 times till this one guy said he’d sell his to me. Even better was that this flag is really nice, it has all stitching rather than just a flat piece of … idk polyester with the stars printed on it. ANYWAYS. So I was reunited with my flag.
Our seats were pretty awesome. We were in line with the goal line so that was awesome, regardless if it was Brazil scoring 2 of those goals on my side. Idc. Singing the national anthem with a crowd of 67,000 + people (take into account of Brazilian fans though) is absolutely incredible. Flag was high and singing was loud. After that we realized the group of 6 guys standing behind us were awesome and so we bonded with them.
Then kick off.
Screaming, yelling, cursing, joy, jumping. All of it. Incredible. Neymar was playing to the left so I got to see some of him up close, that was pretty awesome. Hulk even moved over in some plays. Neymar’s penalty was hell. It’s whatev. Timmy is a boss.
When Gomez scored hell broke lose. I just remember going insane with everyone around me. Probably the best part of the night.
After the game, and back at the car, we started to try and get in the car and get out and then gave up on that. So I went to the van 4 cars down from our spot where a group of Brazilian guys were. At first I just wanted a picture with them. After that we went back to the car and started chilling and just yelling and singing with random passerbys. Eventually we just said fuck it and took our remaining drinks and grouped with our new Brazilian friends and started one big party. Even random people passing stopped by and chilled with us. We got to know each other, discussed the game, discussed club teams, discussed the sport, and discussed how fucking awesome the night had been. It literally doesn’t get better… Even though the USA lost… it doesn’t even matter. It’s the experience of an international soccer match. The combining of 2 types of fans. The emotion of the game on both sides. The rejoicing regardless of outcome after the match.
Easily one of the best nights of my life. Easily without a doubt.
OH AND DID I MENTION THAT I SAW GEEEEEZER AKA DAVID LUIZ! Even if he was on the bench. Oh and also on a note of Chelsea FC business… Hulk did fairly well I thought. He had one or two moments that were extreme selfishness but other than that he creates. I’ll take him.
